World Culture: "I Saw it Myself..." exhibition, marking the 275th anniversary of Francisco Goya, opened in Moscow

29 May 2021

The Museum of Contemporary History of Russia (Moscow) launched an exhibition "I Saw it Myself ...", devoted to the 275th anniversary of Francisco Goya. It presents engravings from the Disasters of War (80 prints) and the La Tauromaquia (40 prints) series.

The Museum owns a unique collection of works by the famous Spanish artist Francisco Goya (1746–1828). The last prints from the original engravings were made in 1937. Publishers found a paper of the XIX century and carefully studied the technological process of that time. As a result, the quality of the prints is even better than the first editions.

The Museum got its unique items in 1937 when the Soviet Union celebrated the XX anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. The Spanish trade unions, through the Red International of Labor Unions, gifted to the Soviet people four series of prints by Francisco Goya. They entered the Museum of the USSR Revolution (now the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia).

The exhibition will run until August 8, 2021.
