15 June 2021

The Literary and Art Museum of Anton Chekhov's Book "Sakhalin Island" (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk) launched the exhibition "In the Prism of Onegin: Pushkin-Tchaikovsky-Chekhov". It will run until September 15, 2021. The Tchaikovsky State Memorial Musical Museum-Reserve in Klin provided exhibits to Sakhalin as part of the"Culture" national project.

The exposition gives a unique opportunity to learn exciting facts about Tchaikovsky and look at his private things: manuscripts, visit cards, top hat, tie, inkwell, etc.

Special attention is paid to the role of Pushkin's Eugene Onegin in Tchaikovsky's life and oeuvre. His opera of the same name was first staged in 1879 at the Maly Theater in Moscow and gained worldwide fame. Costumes of famous artists, programs, posters, photographs and letters tell the history of the creation and production of the Eugene Onegin opera.

Anton Chekhov attended the premiere of Eugene Onegin. He confessed that he loved the music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and especially this opera. Conquered by the charm of the great composer, Anton Chekhov devoted the prose collection Gloomy People to Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
