Museums of Russia: Chinese Palace in Oranienbaum opened two halls after the restoration

18 July 2021

Two halls of the Chinese Palace in Oranienbaum (the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve) were opened after the restoration.

Now, visitors to Oranienbaum have an opportunity to attend the ceremonial halls of the eastern building of the Chinese Palace, the so-called Catherine II's side wing, closed ten years ago. The interior stucco preserved the decoration of the XVIII century. Alberto Giani, an associate of Antonio Rinaldi, made a subtle ornament in the most complicated technique of artistic moulding in this hall.

The unique interior of the Small Chinese Study combines silk, painted with intricate flowers and scenes from Chinese life, and contrasting geometric patterns. The parquet of rare wood preserved a unique layout of the XVIII century.
