History and Culture: Exhibition "Soviet Film Poster. The 1950s - 1980s. The Karisalov Family's Gift to the Multimedia Art Museum" opened in Moscow
The Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow) presents the exhibition "Soviet Film Poster. The 1950s - 1980s. The Karisalov Family's Gift to the Multimedia Art Museum". The exposition features the unique collection of film posters launched by Irina Karisalova, a collector from Saint-Petersburg. She was interested in art in all its diversity: painting, sculpture, applied art. A significant part of her rich collection was donated by the Karisalov family to the largest Russian museums. Mikhail Karisalov continued to collect Soviet film posters. Today this collection entered the Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow), which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in the autumn of 2021.
The exhibition features more than 100 original posters for famous Soviet films: The Girls, Beware of the Car, Office Romance, The Irony of Fate, Love and Pigeons, Mimino, Station for Two, Assa, etc.
In the Soviet Union, cinema was a popular art. It formed the ethical and aesthetic taste of millions of people. In the pre-Internet era, posters played a significant role in film distribution. The poster artists had to create a vivid and impressive picture to attract a potential viewer, convey the clue of the film story and match the visual concept of the film.
The exhibition at the Multimedia Art Museum is a fascinating study of the history of film posters, Soviet cinema and the country, because art exists in the context of history. Some of the film posters are based on photographs. They are significant pages in the development of the photomontage genre in the USSR.
Exhibition "Soviet Film Poster. The 1950s - 1980s. The Karisalov Family's Gift to the Multimedia Art Museum" opens an exhibition series that will present new acquisitions to the museum collections.
The exhibition will run until August 29, 2021.
