Internet and Society: Russpass digital service to tell about the Russian tourism in the XIX century
The Russpass digital travel service will release a series of articles about the history of Russian tourism, geographical discoveries and other exciting events of the past.
The first article of the Russpass Mag online magazine will provide the most popular routes for travellers of the XIX century. Besides European cities, tourists often preferred resorts in the Russian Empire. Most of them are popular even now, for example, Kislovodsk or Essentuki in Stavropol Territory.
While travelling, people had to change vehicles several times. Such trips were expensive and much longer than modern ones. Russpass promotes information about the average time of a journey, necessary things for the road, the reason for carrying firewood in suitcases and events that favoured tourism.
Also, readers will learn about mass tourism and analogues of modern vouchers, ideas of group tours and the establishment of standard hotels instead of inns in Moscow. Historical documents also inform about the accommodation for guests of Emperor Nicholas II's coronation and Russian cities with the first stone hotels.
The article also defines the word "tourist", which appeared already in the early XX century.
Russpass is a digital service for travel planning and sightseeing in Russia.
The service was initiated by the Moscow Government. The project is supervised by the City Committee for Tourism along with the Moscow Department of Information Technology.
