Internet and Science: Russian Science Foundation launched virtual tours of the legendary Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics

7 August 2021

The Russian Science Foundation launched virtual tours of the legendary Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics.

In 1963, the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences built and launched one of the world's first colliders for conducting experiments in elementary particle physics - VEP-1. This collider proved the possibility of using two light beams flying towards each other. Now, this is the principal method for studying elementary particles.

Today, besides high-energy physics, the specialists of the Institute, with the support of the Russian Science Foundation, are studying terahertz radiation, creating experimental equipment and exploring the use of devices for the treatment of cancer.

Now, without leaving home, anyone may visit the halls and laboratories of the INP and examine particle colliders and other equipment from all sides. The tour was prepared as part of a large-scale multimedia project Science in 360 ° of the Russian Science Foundation.

The tour of the laboratories is available on a website launched as part of the Year of Science and Technology with the information support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science: https://360.rscf.ru/organization/iyaf-so-ran/.
