Memorable Dates of Russia: State Russian Museum presented the exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of Igor Grabar

The Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg) hosts the exhibition "Igor Grabar. For the 150th Anniversary of the Artist's Birth".

The exposition brings together more than 100 paintings by Igor Grabar created in the 1880s - 1950s. It features exhibits from 17 Russian museums and items from private collections in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

Igor Grabar was a prominent representative of the Silver Age of Russian culture. He became one of the leading masters of Russian impressionism and had a significant impact on the development of this art movement in Russia.

Grabar became famous not only as an artist but also as an art critic. He was the author of the first multivolume history of Russian art and monographs devoted to Valentin Serov and Isaac Levitan. Grabar also contributed to the creation of a scientific exposition of the State Tretyakov Gallery in the mid-1910s. In Soviet times, Grabar actively worked on portraits of famous figures of culture and science.

The exhibition will run until September 20, 2021.
