History of Russia: Exhibition "100 Years of the GOELRO Plan" launched at the Museum of Moscow

4 September 2021

The Museum of Moscow launched a new exhibition marking the centenary of the GOELRO plan. The decision to electrify the entire country, finally taken in 1921, influenced all aspects of Soviet life, including art. The exhibition curators Alexandra Selivanova and Katerina Telegina paid great attention to the oeuvre of the 1920s – 1930s, inspired by the theme of electrification. At that time, it was regarded not as an ordinary thing but a miracle.

The exhibition space comprises several sections: Light, Current, Stations, Lines, City. Each of them tells how electrification influenced both the lives of ordinary people and art. The exhibits are not only from the Museum of Moscow; many items were provided by the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the Vladimir Mayakovsky State Museum, the State Archives of the Russian Federation and many others.

The exhibition will run until October 24, 2021.
