Society and Culture: Exhibition of costumes from Soviet historical films available at the Gorky Film Studio in presence and online

The exposition "Time and Things. Historical Costume in Cinema", featuring old clothes and author's costumes from Soviet historical films, will be launched on August 19, 2021, in the new exhibition space of the Gorky Film Studio (Moscow).

The exhibition is arranged with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Moscow Government. It will run for free until October 30. From September, it will be available online thanks to a virtual tour on the official website of the Film Studio.

Outstanding artists Yakov Rivosh, Elsa Rapoport, Olga Kruchinina, Mariam Bykhovskaya, Natalia Schneider and Eleonora Maklakova, the winner of the Emmy award, created costumes in workshops of the Gorky Film Studio.

The exposition features their works for sixteen historical films of the Gorky Film Studio, including the famous Leo Tolstoy, Youth of Peter, Red and Black by Sergei Gerasimov. Among the exhibits are trophy German costumes bought for the legendary The Anna Cross with Alexander Vertinsky and dresses for the film Humiliated and Insulted with Nastassja Kinski, Nikita Mikhalkov and Alexander Abdulov.

The exhibition showcases a total of 69 items. There are both designer costumes in the fashion of the late XVII - early XX centuries and old clothes restored for filming. These are dresses for visits and evenings, weddings and balls, mantles, hats of silk, fine wool and satin, with unique laces, ornaments and feathers.
