Marking Knowledge Day: Exhibition "A Book Opens the World of Knowledge" presented in Tyumen

1 September 2021

Marking Knowledge Day on September 1, the Dmitri Mendeleev Tyumen Regional Scientific Library arranged a book and illustrative exhibition "A Book Opens the World of Knowledge'', devoted to the primer and alphabet.

The exhibition presents various publications from the library collections: primers by N. S. Zhukova, V. A. Stepanov, L. A. Yefrosinina and others.

One of the most popular children's reading aids was compiled by the famous Russian teacher and educator Dmitri Tikhomirov and his wife Yelena. They present a simple, accessible material; the texts have colour drawings. Reading exercises are verses and stories by Russian writers, proverbs and sayings. The book plays a significant enlightening and educational role.

The exposition showcases different alphabets: primers by Yelena Uleva, Irina Golub, Grigory Oster, the alphabet in verses by Elena Blaginina, and even a reprint edition of the Soviet Alphabet by Vladimir Mayakovsky.

The exhibition will also provide a facsimile edition of the Alphabet in Pictures by Alexander Benois, an excellent example of Russian book graphics. Benois created a fine children's book that is not only educational but also entertaining. The artist's illustrations develop imaginative thinking and visual memory, speech and aesthetic taste and, of course, attract students to study the alphabet, helping to create associative links between the letter, word and image.

The exhibition will run until November 16, 2021.
