Society and Culture: Moscow to host an exhibition "Moscow and Muscovites" celebrating City Day

11 September 2021

The exhibition "Moscow and Muscovites" runs from September 2 to September 17, 2021. It is timed to coincide with Moscow City Day, which is celebrated this year on September 11-12.

The "Moscow and Muscovites" exhibition is an annual exhibition of Moscow artists devoted to Moscow City Day, which opens the autumn exhibition season. The exposition involves 308 artists; they show 360 works at two exhibition sites - the Exhibition Hall of the Moscow branch of the Union of Artists of Russia on Begovaya Street and the Art Kombinat Creative Space in Perovo.

The exhibition is very different. It showcases both prominent authors and beginners. Artists provide to the exhibition, as a rule, only one work. It is another tradition of large exhibitions of the Union of Artists of Russia. On the first hand, it allows the artist to see their work in comparison with the works of colleagues. On the second hand, it presents to experts and the public the essence of Moscow fine arts in its current state.

Moscow with its ancient history and the beating pulse of modernity has always been and remains in the centre of the artists’ attention. A picturesque and poetic image of the capital with the Moscow Kremlin, churches, parks, streets, trams, cars, metro stations, suburban estates, prominent people and ordinary residents appears before the public in paintings, drawings, sculptures and decorative compositions.
