History of Russia: Exhibition project "Kronstadt. Island, Fortress, Port" presented in St. Petersburg

On September 25, 2021, marking the 350th anniversary of the great reformer, founder of St. Petersburg, Emperor Peter I (celebrated in 2022), ROSPHOTO presents the exhibition "Kronstadt. Island, Fortress, Port".

The exposition features original decrees of the first Russian emperor, rare maps, plans and prints of the XVIII century, digital copies of photographs by the famous St. Petersburg artist Karl Bulla, photographers of Emperor Nicholas II, pre-revolutionary artists of Kronstadt, Soviet authors and modern pictures. Guests will also see museum exhibits related to the activities of the Kronstadt Marine Hospital, items from private collections. The exhibition features over 200 historical artefacts.

The exposition consists of several sections. The first one is connected with the establishment of Kronstadt and the history of the city during Peter the Great's reign. It also spotlights the numerous memorial places of Emperor Peter I. The second section features exhibits on the history of the construction of the Kronstadt fortress and forts. The third tells about the Kronstadt Port, the bases of the Baltic Fleet, and objects of the naval infrastructure. Besides, the exhibition guests will learn a lot about Kronstadt city, its streets and its residents. A significant part of the exposition is devoted to Kronstadt as one of the largest religious centres in Russia. The city's treasury is the Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, where Archpriest Ivan Sergiyev, revered as John of Kronstadt, served.

The exhibition will run until November 14, 2021.
