
Memory of Russia: The Road of Life Museum solemnly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the launch of the transport artery of the besieged city
The Road of Life Museum (a branch of the Central Naval Museum, Leningrad Region) held commemorative events marking the launch of this transport artery during the Great Patriotic War, which happened 80 years ago.
A commemorative meeting took place on the Ladoga Kurgan. The festive program included literary and musical performances by different art groups. Participants lowered wreaths into the waters of Ladoga in memory of the victims of the besieged Leningrad; they also launched into the sky balloons in the form of white doves.
On this day, the bushes of the Polina Osipenko variety were planted at the lilac alley of the museum. This lilac got its name after the pilot of the Great Patriotic War. The museum conference hall hosted an awarding ceremony for winners of the children's drawing contest of the Mikhail Glinka Children's Art School in Vsevolozhsk.
The memorable day ended with watching the documentary Ladoga and sightseeing tours for the museum guests.
On September 12, 80 years ago, the tugboat Oryol headed by Captain Ivan Yerofeev reached Cape Osinovets and delivered two barges with flour and weapons. It was the beginning of the regular work of the Road of Life.
On September 12, 1972, the Central Naval Museum opened its branch - the Road of Life Museum. This year, it marks the 49th anniversary.
