Information Technology and Society: Discover Moscow mobile application became more user friendly

The Discover Moscow mobile application provides its improved version. The public online city guide over the capital is now more user friendly. Users can now quickly select walking routes and see points of interest close to their location.

Besides, the application promotes the option of a selection of attractions to visit. New users will see interactive prompts at the first start of the application. They will introduce the choice of options.

The main page of an updated version has several sections: New, Popular and Stories. They contain information, descriptions of excursion routes, quests, the most popular sights chosen by other users. The selected materials can be saved and shared with friends. For example, the Stories section contains photographs and collections devoted to historical sites and significant events in Moscow of different times. The user can share them on social networks and messengers.

The home page now automatically displays objects located near the user. It can be a museum, theatre, monument, square or another city landmark. The distance to it in kilometres is shown on the screen near the signed object.

Also, the personal account allows easy saving an article about any object of interest, favourite quest or walking route by adding it to the Favourites section. The content will remain available even without the Internet.

Another useful new feature is the improved menu bar. It is available on the home page at the bottom of the screen. It gives quick access to an interactive map, news feed, search, user profile and Favourites section. Each section is marked with its icon.

For example, clicking on the map icon opens a search for objects on the city map. Each object has a corresponding icon, symbolizing its type: building, monument, museum or sight. From this section, it is possible to explore the object card and learn about it in detail.

New functions appeared in the personal account as well. Now it promotes the viewing of the statistics of routes travelled, quests solved, places visited. The newsletter will help always be aware of new products.

Now the application allows new users to register in the Discover Moscow system. Previously, this function was only available on the project's website. The user can log in using a mos.ru account, email address or social media account.
