Archivists from Nizhny Novgorod released in the public domain an array of documents "Gorky Region 1941-1945."

Experts digitized about 94 thousand pages (almost 95 thousand images) of wartime documents. The priority topic was "Labor Valor in Wartime". The most significant documentary evidence is available in the website's section Gorky Region 1941-1945 in Archival Documents of the State Archival Service of Nizhny Novgorod Region.

In particular, the section features declassified documents of the Gorky City Defence Committee from the State Social and Political Archives of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The main tasks of the Committee were to mobilize the population and material resources, organize the issue of military products, build defensive structures, strengthen air defence, protect the rear, restore buildings destroyed during the bombing, and help the affected population.

Over the past decade, archivists prepared six collections of archival documents: two books of letters from the front and two editions devoted to the aid from Gorky residents to besieged Leningrad - "Childhood Scorched by War" and "Arzamas and Arzamas District during the Great Patriotic War".

The historical information prepared by the specialists of the Central Archives of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Archival Committee became the documentary argument for awarding Nizhny Novgorod, and later Dzerzhinsk, the name of "City of Labor Valor".

The section Gorky Region 1941-1945 in Archival Documents will be constantly improved.
