Memory of the World: Exhibition "Feel the Word of Nizami" devoted to the 880th anniversary of one of the greatest poets opened in St. Petersburg

The exhibition "Feel the Word of Nizami" was opened in the New Building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg). It marks the 880th anniversary of one of the greatest poets of the medieval East.

The life of the renowned poet of the XII - early XIII century Ilyās ibn-Yūsuf, known under the poetic pseudonym Nizami, was closely associated with his native town of Ganja, located on the territory of modern Azerbaijan. The most reliable source of information about Nizami's biography is his oeuvre. By tradition, UNESCO officially recognizes 1141 Nizami's year of birth.

In the XX century, thanks to translations into many languages, the name of Nizami became recognised all over the world, and his works entered the golden fund of world literature.

The exhibition features the works of Nizami in the original and various translations. The exposition also includes illustrative material and household items.

The exhibition will run until November 21.
