
Society and Culture: The award ceremony of the Russian Geographical Society held in Moscow
On October 19, 2021, the award ceremony of the Russian Geographical Society was held in Moscow. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a video address to the participants and guests of the event.
"I am confident that Russia will always have many people who are able to boldly expand the borders of scientific knowledge, persistently follow their dream and make outstanding discoveries. All nominees for the RGO awards are such active, passionate and highly educated people", said Vladimir Putin.
The prizes are awarded in eight nominations: the brightest and most successful projects in geography, ecology, preservation and popularization of natural, historical and cultural heritage. The Atlas of Russian Caves, the result of many-yeared speleological research in all Russian regions, was recognized as the Best Scientific Project. The nomination for Best Historical and Cultural Project went to the initiative The Contribution to the Common Cause. Revival of Wooden Temples of the North.
Sergei Shoigu, the President of the Russian Geographical Society, awarded participants of the project The Main Facade of Russia. History, Events, People, the winners of the Best Expedition nomination. Their work comprises results of complex expeditions of the Northern Fleet in the Arctic archipelagos.
