Museums of Russia: New museum complex to appear in Gatchinsky district of Leningrad Region

26 October 2021

The new museum complex will appear in Gatchinsky district of Leningrad Region. One of the objects is the "The Station Master's House". Its full reconstruction will be completed by the end of the year. The collections that are kept in other museums during the restoration, will return to the Post Station soon. The museum complex recreates the atmosphere of the XIX century with a blacksmith's, a well, a stable and a Station Master's House, which provided waiting rooms for guests. Alexander Pushkin stayed there more than once. Vyra was the third Post Station on the St. Petersburg - Mikhailovskoye route. Here the poet heard the story that inspired him to write a novella The Station Master. The country's first museum of a literary character is based on a fiction story and archival documents.

Complex restoration of another cultural heritage site began in the village of Rozhdestveno. There will be a reconstruction of the estate of the writer Vladimir Nabokov. In the1990s, the fire badly damaged the house. The restorers will replace worn-out wooden structures of the log house, strengthen the foundation and arrange all engineering communications inside the building. They will also create conditions for people with limited mobility.

In the future, the Station Master's House and Nabokov's estate may enter a cultural and educational cluster united by the theme of literature. Thus, both villages of Vyra and Rozhdestveno will become new points on the tourist map of the Leningrad Region.
