24 November 2021

The opening of the exhibition "The Savings Bank is the Mother of Economy": the History of the Savings Business in the Russian Empire" was held in the Korf Hall of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition tells about the spread of financial literacy in Russia, the creation of a network of savings banks not only in enterprises and post offices, but also in schools.

The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 180th anniversary of the decree of Emperor Nicholas I on the establishment of savings banks in Russia. It was from this moment that "not only those with sufficient funds, but also those who could save a little, were given the opportunity to accumulate money under state protection and to receive interest".

The exhibition about the financial literacy of Russians will be useful not only for specialists, but also for history buffs.

The exposition will run until December 19.
