26 November 2021

November 26, 2021 the exhibition “Image and Meaning. Dutch painting of the 17th century from museums and private collections in Russia" was opened at the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art (Moscow).

80 works of Dutch masters of the "golden" XVII century from 11 museums and 4 private collections in Russia are united in a single space of the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art. This exhibition will become a point of attraction for the professional museum community, and will also be of interest to the widest range of visitors.

Geography of the project is from Moscow to Krasnodar and the Republic of Tatarstan. Cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Moscow, expressed in promoting the implementation of a parallel program, will provide an in-depth overview of the artistic life of the Netherlands in the 17th century.

9 halls of the Serpukhov Museum reveal the life and character of this country with the help of the main genres, the system of which was formed by the Dutch masters of the 17th century: still life, portrait, sea and national landscapes, battle genre, the life and life of the city, historical painting presented by the artists of the Rembrandt circle, his contemporaries. Each room reveals a specific theme, and their sequence creates a route along which visitors go on a tour of Holland without leaving the Moscow region: they sail by ship, moor to foggy shores, enjoy authentic views, explore cities and their environs, visit the houses of local residents, get to know them and learn their stories.

The space is provided with multimedia-interactive equipment, which will help not only see Holland, but also "feeli" it.
