28 December 2021

The exhibition "We Give Praises to Persons of Worth" was opened in the Great Peterhof Palace. It marks the 300th anniversary of the awarding of Peter I with the Emperor's title.

The exhibition opens a series of events devoted to the 350th anniversary of Peter I, celebrated in 2022.

The exhibition is a joint project of the State Museum-Reserve Peterhof and famous collectors from the Karisalov family. It marks the 300th anniversary of the awarding title of "Father of the Fatherland, Peter the Great, Emperor of All Russia" to the founder of Peterhof. Peter the Great received the Emperor's title after the signing of the Treaty of Nystad in 1721. The title gave a new status to the young state and its main summer residence - Peterhof. Over time it became not only a unique artistic ensemble of gardens, parks and fountains but also a repository of historical memory. The images of the past and people who created Peterhof are represented in architecture, sculpture and painting.

The art collection of the Karisalov family includes portraits of Peter I, his followers and heirs. The exhibition project "We Give Praises to Persons of Worth" comprises works from the private collection and memorial items from Peterhof, revealing a brilliant story of the House of Romanov. It features over 40 unique items.

The exhibition will run until February 20, 2022.
