Memorable Dates of Russia: "Triumphs to Be!" exhibition, marking the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great, launched at the Narva Triumphal Gates
The Narva Triumphal Gates (a branch of the State Museum of Urban Sculpture, St. Petersburg) launched the "Triumphs to Be!" exhibition.
It marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great. Peter I was the first Russian ruler who established the tradition of military triumph - the solemn entry into the capital of a victorious commander and his troops as in Ancient Rome.
The exposition features prints and paintings depicting brilliant victories and triumphs of the Russian army and Navy and triumphal arches devoted to these victories.
It showcases images of both the preserved triumphal arches and lost ones. Visitors will see pictures of triumphal gates in St. Petersburg and learn about them. Also, the exhibition introduces the triumphal arches of the world. Curators compiled a real encyclopedia - more than 200 arches from around the world. All of them are unique and reflect the cultural identity of their native region.
A special place at the exhibition is given to Yekateringof. This quiet and cosy park near the Narva Triumphal Gate keeps many secrets and mysteries. Initially, it was the family residence of Peter the Great. It is located near the place of the first naval victory of the Russian fleet on May 7 (18), 1703.
The exhibition will run until May 15, 2022.
