Society and Culture: Exhibition “Collector of Words. The author of the explanatory dictionary Vladimir Dahl” presented in St. Petersburg

The Pushkin All-Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) features the exhibition “Collector of Words. The author of the explanatory dictionary Vladimir Dahl”, dedicated to a man of encyclopedic knowledge and interests, whose main passion and life work was the creation of the “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language”.

The impressive four-volume work of Dahl was published in 1863-1866 and became a bright event in the cultural life of Russia. It happened exactly as the author wanted: the dictionary aroused a noticeable interest in living Russian dialects, in the folk basis of literary speech.
