Memory of Russia: The exhibition “1812. Power of the People”, marking the 210th anniversary since the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, presented in Tver
The exhibition 1812. Power of the People has been opened in the Tver Local History Museum, marking the 210th anniversary since the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. This is a joint large-scale project by the Tver State United Museum and the “For peace and kindness” Cultural Initiatives Foundation. The project is run with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
The Patriotic War of 1812 has been the biggest event of the beginning of XIX century not only in Russian, but in the world history as well. Russia became the liberator of Europe, its foreign campaigns brought the unquestioned authority to the country on the world arena. The most important thing is that the events of 1812 have shown the public unity, when class and multinational Russian society defended its homeland.
The main goal of the exhibition is to show the national unity in the face of the enemy. In the very beginning of the War, the first calls for people to unite, as well as the bold steps towards the creation of militia were made in Tver. These patriotic initiatives are associated with Great Duchess Catherine Pavlovna, sister of the Emperor Alexander I.
The exhibition presents over 250 items from the private collection of A. N. Vikhrov, the collections of the Tver State United Museums and the Grekov Studio of War Artists. Those are the authentic pieces from the first half of XIX century that depict the Russia-France relations of the time: engravings, weaponry and uniforms, portraits of the heroes of the Patriotic War, medals and orders.
Most of the rarities are shown to the public for the first time.
The exhibition will run until October 8, 2022.
