Exhibitions: Masterpieces of West-European Engravings of the XVIII-XIX centuries presented in the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts

On July 2, 2022 the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts launched the exhibition The Golden Age that features works of remarkable masters of West-European engravings of the XVIII-XIX centuries from the private collections from the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States of America, Italy, Holland and Australia. They highlight the vivid expression of extraordinary creative imagination and high artistic skill of the engravers: Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Philip James de Loutherbourg, William Hamilton, Thomas Stothard, Bernard Picart, Gerard Hoet, Matthias Scheits, Raphael, and others. These great masters not only created compositions on paper, they formed fascinating and wonderful world of the space volume and depth, full of colors, air and movement. The engravings are just as diverse as life itself.

Visitors to the exhibition will have an opportunity to see traditional biblical compositions, scenes from the antique mythology, genre scenes, landscapes and portraits. With an incredible appreciation of the themes and styles of the masters, the engravings of the XVIII-XIX centuries allow to explore the craft of the engravers, to understand artistic ideals of the past centuries, and to feel the philosophical goals of the artists.

The exhibition will run until September 4, 2022.
