World Culture: The exhibition “Brother Ivan. Collections of Mikhail and Ivan Morozov” presented in Moscow
The exhibition Brother Ivan. Collections of Mikhail and Ivan Morozov has been opened at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow).
This exhibition-dedication to Morozov brothers is the final exhibition in the series of projects about remarkable collectors of Russia and France.
The exhibition features works by M. Denis, A. Sisley, C. Pissarro, P. A. Renoir, C. Monet, P. Signac, A. Maillol, P. Gauguin, H. Matisse, P. Picasso, V. Vasnetsov, K. Korovin, I. Levitan, M. Chagall, B. Kustodiev, V. Serov, S. Vinogradov, V. Surikov, and other artists.
The exhibition Brother Ivan. Collections of Mikhail and Ivan Morozov not only presents the collections of two brothers in an unprecedented volume, but also makes visitors to think about a whole galaxy of patrons of art of the late XIX – early XIX centuries. As any private collection, the collections of Morozovs showcased the taste and the specifics of its owners’ temperament. At the same time though, these collections were the mirror of its epoch that reflected the newest trends in the art development and priorities of the most progressive patrons of the time. The important characteristic of the collection of the younger brother, Ivan, was its systematic nature – the collection could have been a real museum of contemporary art.
The exhibition will run until October 30, 2022.
