IT and Culture: The multimedia exhibition of the State Russian Museum “Dedication to Cosmonautics” presented in Kemerovo

4 July 2022

On July 1 – August 28, 2022, the Kuzbass Art Centre in Kemerovo hosts multimedia exhibition Dedication to Cosmonautics. The exposition has been opened within the work of the branch of the Russian Museum in Kemerovo, and is a result of the creative cooperation between the Multimedia Centre of the Russian Museum and a team of interdisciplinary digital artists.

The exhibition’s concept is built around the scientific and philosophical ideas about exploring the laws of the Universe and the theory of its origin, and about the contemplations of the connection between micro- and macrocosm and the human’s place in the evolution of world space.

The Multimedia Centre of the Russian Museum displays an example of integration of media objects, created by painters, musicians, designers using digital technology, into the museum exhibition space.

The exposition features four sections. Each one is dedicated to the various sides of the relations between a Human, Space, and Art. The most important part of the exhibition is the multimedia composition based on the paintings by cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the first person to conduct a spacewalk. Many of his works reflecting the shock and excitement from “meeting” the Universe were based on the sketches made using coloured pencils during the flight, in the times of rest aboard the space station. The multimedia composition organized by painters Oleg and Elena Zakovryashin and the specialists of the Multimedia Centre of the Russian Museum is based on the paintings by Alexei Leonov from the collections of the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow.

Special programme featuring online-lectures, excursions, dance and audiovisual performances, film screenings, musical improvisations and workshops has been prepared within the multimedia exhibition Dedication to Cosmonautics.
