Memory of Russia: The military-historical festival, dedicated to the memory of Denis Davydov, and the “Live Chess” project take place on Borodino Field

30 July 2022

The Denis Davydov military-historical festival and the unique project Live Chess take place in the Borodino Field Museum-Reserve (Moscow Region) on July 30, 2022.

The festival, dedicated to the memory of the guerilla, participant of the Patriotic War of 1812 Denis Davydov, will start with the solemn ceremony in the park of the Imperial Palace, on the spot of the Borodino estate of the family of Davydovs, where the future poet spent his childhood. At the historical interactive platforms, visitors will have an opportunity to see uniforms and weapons of fighting armies, learn about military field life, and to witness the reconstructed episode of the cavalry battle of the Patriotic War of 1812.

Also within the Live Chess project, Russian and French armies will meet again – this time in the peaceful battle, marking the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino. On a huge open-air chessboard, grand masters – international masters of chess Alexander Bolkhovitin and Victor Sivakov will play out the famous “Italian” game (A. Hoffman – A. Petrov, Warsaw, 1844), while club members of the historical reconstruction will participate as 32 chess figures and repeat the moves of the live figures – infantrymen, cavalrymen and artillerymen.
