Marking the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia and the Decade of Childhood: The mobile project “Fairytale Motifs in Works of Art” opened at the Russian Museum

On July 14, 2022 the mobile educational project dedicated to the fairytale motifs in works of art was opened in the Eastern Guardia of the St. Michael’s Castle of the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), marking the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia and the Decade of Childhood.

Visitors will have an opportunity to not only meet the hero of the Knight at the Crossroads by Viktor Vasnetsov from the collection of the Russian Museum, but also to learn about fairytale characters and mythical creatures from Russian folk tales, folklore of Tatars, Meryans, Saami, Pomors, Mordvins, Mari, Khanty, Mansi and other peoples of the country.

The partners of the project are the State Museum of Fine Arts of Republic of Tatarstan, the Yarloslavl Art Museum, the Murmansk Regional Art Museum, the Mordovian Erzia Museum of Visual Arts, the Kogalyma Museum Exhibition Centre and the Mari El Republican Museum of Fine Arts, the collections of which feature unique exhibits associated with the heroes of myths and legends, stories and tales. The illustrations to the tale Shurale by G. Tuqay (Kazan), Tale of Yersh Yershovich, son of Shchetinnikov (Yaroslavl), Kuigorozh, the illustrations to the collection Mordovian Folk Tales (Saransk), the cover of the book Izi Patyr (Yoshkar-Ola) are showcased within the project.

The cultural exhibition centers of the Russian Museum based on the listed museums are successfully running and currently hosting the mobile educational project Fairytale Motifs in Works of Art.
