History and Culture: Russian Geographical Society presented a model of the Konstantinovsky Battery at the International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2022”
Russian Geographical Society has presented a model of the Konstantinovsky Battery (Sevastopol) at the International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2022”.
The exposition consists of two parts. The scale model itself replicates the forms of the original structure – the two-level stone fortification in the shape of a horseshoe. The inner part is dedicated to the history of the architectural monument, from the construction to the present day.
In addition, the virtual excursion is available for visitors on the stand. Guests have a choice of three virtual tours: high-resolution aeropanorama The Eye of the Falcon featuring interactive tips, a walk around the territory of the complex, and a visit to the exposition of the Konstantinovsky Battery museum, located in the inner casemates.
At each stop of the excursion route, there are special interactive areas in the forms of texts and videos, telling about key objects and significant historical events.
The 3D-tour also contains information on the heroes of the Crimean War Vladimir Kornilov and Pavel Nakhimov, on the life and feats of the defenders during the battle for the city in the Crimean War and the Defence of Sevastopol in the Great Patriotic War.
The gallery of the heroes of Sevastopol serves as an important addition to the virtual tour. Portraits of the city’s defenders are complemented by the stories of their lives and feats. Here are presented biographies of Lev Tolstoy and Nikolai Birilyov, Eduard Asadov and Maria Bayda, Ivan Papanin and Noah Adamia, and many other compatriots, whose names are forever inscribed in the country’s history.
The Konstantinovsky Battery has been opened for visitors in the end of 2017. Before that, massive restoration work has been conducted by the Russian Geographical Society. Today, the ground floor, observation deck, courtyard have been reconstructed, as well as many others. The reconstruction was based on the blueprints, provided by the Central Archive of the Russian Navy in St. Petersburg. The museum-exhibition complex of the Konstantinovsky Battery currently includes expositions on the history of Sevastopol and the battery, the history of the Russian Geographical Society, and an exhibition of reproductions of geographical maps from the collections of RGO.
The VIII International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2022” takes place from August 15-21, 2022 on the territory of the Patriot Park (Moscow). It will be open for visitors on August 19-21.
