Regions of Russia: The book and illustrative exhibition “Altai – St. Petersburg: People and Fates” presented at the Altai Regional Library in Barnaul

1 October 2022

The book and illustrative exhibition Altai – St. Petersburg: People and Fates has opened in the Shishkov Altai Regional Library (Barnaul). Over 400 publications, printed over the two centuries, tell about the role of Petersburg in the history of the region.

The exposition presents materials from the holdings of the Rare Books Department – illustrated publications about St. Petersburg and part of the collection Library of Doctor Ivan Ivanovich Kazarinov, which contains luxury works of book printing art, dedicated to medicine, literature, history, natural sciences and other fields. The books, published in the XX-XXI centuries and showcased at the exhibition, feature publications that reveal what role St. Petersburg played in the development of the region – from the establishment of the Kolyvan-Voskresensk Mining and Metallurgy Complex in the XVIII century to present day, including stories of political exiles, Leningrad factories evacuated to Altai in the wartime and the theme of urban architecture.

The idea of the exhibition was inspired by the collective monograph The City on the Neva in the History of Altai: People and Fates, written by scholars of the Polzunov Altai State University and specialists of the Art Museum of Altai Territory.

The exhibition will run until October 14.
