History and Culture: The exhibition “Tver Atlantis” opens in the Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture in Moscow

22 September 2022

On September 22, 2022 the exhibition “Tver Atlantis” opens in the Central Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art (Moscow).

Marking the 75th anniversary since its establishment, the Andrey Rublev Museum presents an exhibition, dedicated to one of the most significant pages in the history of the formation of its collection – the expeditions of the 1960s-1970s to Tver (then Kalinin) Region. During these travels, numerous works of art have been saved – icons, books, craft items. The most ancient and remarkable monuments of Tver iconography have been restored and showcased shortly after the expeditions. To a large extent, it was the specialists of the Andrey Rublev Museum who wrote the history of the ancient Tver art.

Many of Tver icons are presented in the permanent exposition of the museum. Others, preserved in the collections, are specially displayed at the exhibition. In addition to the icons of the XV-XVI centuries, it also demonstrates later works of the XVII-XVIII centuries.

The free mobile guide on the “Artifact” platform is also available to use at the exhibition.

The exhibition will run until January 8, 2023.
