President of Russia: Vladimir Putin signed a law, providing for the introduction of unitary federal basic general education programs

President of Russia Vladimir Putin has signed Federal Law On Amending the Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation” and Article 1 of the Federal Law “On Mandatory Requirements in the Russian Federation”.

The Federal Law was adopted by the State Duma on September 14, 2022 and approved by the Federation Council on September 21, 2022.

The Federal Law introduces unitary federal basic general education programs for the Russian Federation, which will be developed and approved by the Ministry of Education of Russia.

According to the Federal Law, when developing the basic general education program, institutions that carry out educational activities in state-accredited educational programs of primary general, basic general, secondary general education, provide for the direct application of federal work programs in the subjects “Russian language”, “reading” and “science” in the implementation of the mandatory part of the educational program of primary general education, and when implementing the mandatory part of the educational programs of basic general and secondary general education – of federal work programs in the academic subjects “Russian language”, “literature”, “history”, “social studies”, “geography” and “basic safety training”.

Federal basic general education programs will be approved by the Ministry of Education no later than January 1, 2023.

Basic general education programs must be brought in line with federal basic general education programs no later than September 1, 2023.
