16 October 2022

The stand exhibition Maria Feodorovna. Danish Princess – Russian Empress. Memories has opened in the Upper Hall of the Marble Staircase of the Gatchina Palace. The project, marking the 175th anniversary of Empress Maria Feodorovna, spouse of Alexander III, has been created with the support of the History of the Fatherland Foundation.

The exhibition is based on archival photographs from the collections of the Gatchina Museum-Reserve, State Archive of the Russian Federation, diary notes and memories, as well as on images of memorabilia that once belonged to Maria Feodorovna. This is a unique lyrical essay, an attempt to create a full picture of one of the most interesting women in the history of Russia of the XIV-XX centuries.

The future sovereign Maria Feodorovna was born on November 26, 1847 in Copenhagen and died in Denmark as well. Nevertheless, a large part of her life was associated with the Russian Empire.
