Russian Historical Society (RIO) has created a video project In the Name of Humanity. History of Russian Medicine which tells about the remarkable, but little-known achievements of Russian doctors.

It includes a series of ten educational 20-minute-long videos, featuring experts-medics, archivists and historians.

The series begins with the video about the work of the founder of Soviet healthcare, academician Nikolai Semashko. The second one is dedicated to the outstanding biologist, physiologist and surgeon-experimenter, teacher, philosopher Nikolai Pirogov, the creator of penicillin in the USSR Zinaida Yermolyeva, as well as about virologist, who saved the humankind from poliomyelitis, Mikhail Chumakov, and other famous doctors.

The project is based on the materials of the Russian Historical Society, Russian Society of Medical Historians, Museum of the History of Medicine of the Sechenov First MSMU and the Russian Museum of Medicine of the Semashko Research Institute of Public Health.
