Peoples of Russia and Museums: Celebratory program marking the 85th anniversary of the Department of Folk Art of the Russian Museum starts in St. Petersburg

The exhibition O. A. Pochtenny. Roads of Northern Traditions has opened at the Mikhailovsky Palace (State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg). It is dedicated to the start of celebratory program marking the 85th anniversary of the Department of Folk Art of the Russian Museum.

In the exhibition halls of the Eastern Pavilion of the Mikhailovsky Palace, there are showcased graphic works illustrating the unique expedition experience of the Russian Museum in the field of studying traditional art. These are watercolor paintings and drawings by O. A. Pochtenny – landscapes depicting protected nature, old settlements along the shores of the northern rivers, still lifes featuring works of folk art in their natural environment.

Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the collection of posters of the most interesting exhibition projects, scientific and popular publications (albums, catalogues, compilations of articles), to see expedition journals and photo materials on the history of the department that tell about its field and exhibition activity, as well as about everyday life of the specialists of the Department of Folk Art.

The exhibition will run until November 14, 2022.
