Museums of Russia: Exhibition of archeological finds opens marking the 185th anniversary of the Astrakhan Museum-Reserve

On November 18, 2022, the exhibition They’re passionate about their work opens in the Astrakhan Local History Museum. It is timed to coincide with the 185th anniversary of the Astrakhan Museum-Reserve and tells about the latest archeological and paleontological research of museum specialists on the territory of Astrakhan Region.

The exposition features over 100 exhibits, found during the archeological works on the mound “Bogomolsky pesky-I”, as well as near the villages Semibugry and Barany Bugor, paleontological finds of recent years, including a horse skull, mammoth and elasmotherium bones, etc.

Of special interest is a unique set of Greek gems (intaglios) depicting the heroes of the Ancient World: Perseus with the head of Medusa in his hands, Orpheus, Hercules, Apollo (Yenotayevsky District), three-handed pythos-jugs, Arabic dirhams of the VIII century and jewelry – shield rings (Semibugry and Barany Bugor).

A separate complex tells about the unique paleontological research studies of 2021 in Yenotayevsky Disrtict, where a natural burial of the skeleton of the Pleistocene bison Bison priscus was discovered, which has been preserved in perfect condition.

The exhibition will run until January 2023.
