24 November 2022

The exhibition Igor Grabar. Marking the 150th Anniversary has opened in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Lavrushinsky Lane, 12, Engineering Building).

March 2021 marked the 150th anniversary since the birth of Igor Emmanuilovich Grabar (1871–1960) – a remarkable figure, talented artist, founder of the Soviet school of art studies, reformer of the national museum business, one of the organizers of the All-Russian protection and restoration of ancient monuments. The State Tretyakov Gallery has prepared the large-scale project to celebrate this date.

As a painter, Grabar has greatly influenced the formation of impressionism in Russia. He has created vivid, spectacular, life-affirming canvases based on the experience of European impressionism, post-impressionism and modern. Grabar found new possibilities of depicting Russian nature in the “post-Levitan” era, and got recognized as an artist for his wonderful winter landscape paintings and still lifes.

The first in several recent decades, large exhibition of Grabar in the Tretyakov Gallery is suitable for all ages. It will introduce the work of the artist to the new generation of visitors as well. Guests will have an opportunity to see the scale of the master’s personality, who became the hero of two different eras.
