Russian Culture Abroad: Exhibition “Tsarskoe Selo: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” presented in Turkey within the Days of Russian Culture

30 November 2022

The exhibition Tsarskoe Selo: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow has opened in the House of Turkish-Russian Friendship in Ankara (Turkey). It is part of the program of the Days of Russian Culture held by the Ministry of Culture of Russia with the support of the Russian House in Ankara. The Tsarskoe Selo Museum-Reserve takes part in this event together with Russian and Turkish cultural institutions and figures. 40 images of Tsarskoe Selo palaces and parks, interiors and pavilions have been sent to Turkey.

The presented photographs depict scenes of the Catherine Park from a bird’s-eye view, facades of the Catherine Palace and its gorgeous interiors, including the Great Hall and the legendary Amber Room. Modern views are complemented by historical photographs. Pictures from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s have captured the events of that time: the rally on the square in front of the Catherine Palace; lunch of the children of the orphanage on the Cameron Gallery in the Catherine Park; the destruction of the Tsarskoe Selo ensemble during World War II.

A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to cultural events, for which thousands of visitors from all over the world go to the museum.

The Tsarskoe Selo Museum-Reserve is a unique monument of the world history and culture. The former summer residence of the Russian emperors is a recognized masterpiece of architecture and landscape art of the XVIII – early XX century. There are three parks, the Catherine and Alexander Palaces, as well as over a hundred of architectural structures: pavilions, bridges, marble sculptures, exotic structures reflecting architectural epochs from the Baroque to historicism. Tsarskoe Selo is literally saturated with history, beauty, poetry. It is a place of attraction for millions of tourists from Russia and around the world.

The exhibition will run until December 10, 2022.
