1 December 2022

On November 29, 2022, the State Russian Museum presented a digital project dedicated to the famous painting by Karl Bryullov The Last Day of Pompeii in the Russian House in Baku. It is based on the AR-app The Last Day of Pompeii created by the Russian Museum within the framework of the project Art and Technology with the support of the Ministry of Education of Russia and the Sistema Charity Foundation.

Through the technology of virtual and augmented reality, participants of the project have an opportunity to “enter” the painting The Last Day of Pompeii and find themselves on an empty street of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii where the events of the painting take place, to see preparatory drawings and sketches of the painter, to learn which technical layers compose the picturesque work, which techniques did Bryullov use.

The digital project has been organized within the cooperation between the State Russian Museum and the Russian House in Baku for the program The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch. Since January 2011, the Virtual Branch of the Russian Museum based on the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Baku (Russian House) has been conducting work aimed at the popularization of Russian culture among compatriots, students of higher education institutions, schoolchildren, artistic intelligentsia, guests and residents of the capital of Azerbaijan.
