History and Culture: Novgorod Museum-Reserve presents old New Year decorations at exhibitions in its branches

The branches of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve in Staraya Russa and Chudovo present exhibitions showcasing Christmas tree toys from the museum’s collections.

The exhibition Colorful Toys are on the Christmas tree to the Crown… in the Staraya Russa Local History Museum displays Christmas tree toys from the 1960s – 1980s from the museum’s collections, as well as illustrations related to the New Year theme.

The exhibition Carnival of New Year Toys in Chudovo (held at the Nekrasov Agricultural School) showcases cotton and cardboard New Year toys of the first half of the 20th century, glass toys of the 1950s – 1980s, and tells about the history of the custom of decorating a Christmas tree in our country. The authors of the exposition reveal the secrets of making different types of New Year decorations.
