History of Russia: Updated exposition “Peter’s Memorabilia” presented at the Museum-Estate “The Boat of Peter the Great”

18 January 2023

The updated exposition Peter’s Memorabilia has opened at the Museum-Estate “The Boat of Peter the Great” (Yaroslavl Region).

For the first time, visitors will have an opportunity to see Peter’s collection of the late 17th century, unique in its variety and size and testifying to the formation by young Peter I of the Amusing Flotilla on Lake Pleshcheyevo, which became a harbinger of the naval power of the country.

In addition to the legendary boat Fortuna, the collections of the Pereslavl Museum-Reserve contain details of palace buildings (numerous mica window panels, doors with remnants of cloth upholstery, forged window and door hinges), household items, tools and bellows, as well as ship carvings and rigging left from the ships of the Peter’s Amusing Flotilla.

Until today, a number of items have been presented in the expositions of the Museum-Estate “The Boat of Peter the Great”, but most of the collection was in the storerooms, dispersed at different sites of the museum.

The creation of open collections makes it possible to re-collect all Peter’s “memorabilia” on Gremyach Hill – the place of their historical existence, and to show the unique collection in all its diversity.
