Memorable Dates of Russia: Exhibition “The Great Physicist. The Great Citizen”, marking the 120th anniversary of Igor Kurchatov, opened in Ulyanovsk
The exhibition The Great Physicist. The Great Citizen, marking the 120th anniversary since the birth of Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov, has opened at the Museum-Reserve “The Birthplace of V. I. Lenin”.
The main goal of the exhibition project is to spotlight the life path of the world-renowned scientist, paying special attention to the Simbirsk period of the Kurchatov family’s life.
At the same time, the curators of the exhibition had the task not only to show interesting facts from the biography of Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov, but also to try to present the practical applicability and significance of his discoveries and research in our time. First of all, this concerns the “peaceful atom” – both in terms of the development of the country’s energy potential, and wide application in various fields, primarily in medicine.
The exhibition is organically complemented by the memorial exposition of the museum, the restored classrooms of the old gymnasium where Igor Kurchatov studied in 1911/1912, and the physics laboratory which contains about 100 authentic physical devices.
Items from the Simbirsk house of the Kurchatov family, handed over to the collections of the Museum-Reserve “The Birthplace of V. I. Lenin” by Raisa Kuznetsova, Director of the Kurchatov House-Museum in Moscow, serve as the central exhibits of the display.
The exhibition will run until April 14, 2023.
