Marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad: Celebratory events held at the Museum-Reserve “Battle of Stalingrad”

February 2 marks the Day of Military Glory of Russia and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the great battle on the Volga. The Museum-Reserve “Battle of Stalingrad” celebrates this most important date for the region and country with a number of various events.

On the eve of the memorable date, on January 31, 2023, the Museum-Panorama “Battle of Stalingrad” hosted the grand opening of the exhibition Banners of the Stalingrad Victory – a joint project with the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The exposition features 20 banners of military units and formations that most distinguished themselves during the great battle.

On February 1, the opening ceremony of busts of Supreme Commander J. V. Stalin, Deputy Supreme Commander G. K. Zhukov, Chief of the General Staff of the Red Army A. M. Vasilevsky took place on the square in front of the entrance to the panorama museum.

On February 1 and 2, within the framework of the historical and patriotic project Bridge of Memory, residents and guests of the city will have an opportunity to see multimedia projections on the buildings of the panorama museum and the ruins of the Gerhardt’s Mill telling in a figurative form about the events and heroes of the grand battle.

On February 2, by tradition, wreaths and flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame in the Hall of Military Glory to the Large and Small Mass Graves, to the grave of Marshal of the Soviet Union V. I. Chuikov, to the memorial stones and burials at the Military Memorial Cemetery.

On this festive day, a large-scale project Stalingrad – History of the Victory starts. A multimedia thematic exhibition on the history and heroes of the Battle on the Volga will open at 24 sites of Historical Parks “Russia – My History”.

In the Triumphal Hall of the museum, there will be a presentation of the upgraded Internet version of the Book of Memory, prepared jointly with the Administration of Volgograd Region, the Regional Military Commissariat, and the Search Movement of Russia. It includes over 330,000 established names of fallen soldiers.

At the end of the celebratory events, the sky over the city will light up with festive fireworks.
