Museums of Russia: Association of Museums of Ancient Russian Cities to be created in Russia
Vladimir-Suzdal and Pskov Museum-Reserves have signed a cooperation agreement. The document will allow creating an Association of Museums of Ancient Russian Cities in the future.
“The agreement serves as the basis for the creation of the Association of Museums of Ancient Russian Cities. It will make it possible to combine efforts to form the historical consciousness and personal involvement of Russian citizens in the history of their country and people. Today, it is very important to create a single sacred historical spiritual space where people can realize who they are in this world, what it means to be a Russian, what is their heritage. The unification of the museums of ancient Russian cities will allow us to fully achieve this goal”, Svetlana Melnikova, Director General of the Pskov Museum-Reserve, said.
“It is no secret that, despite the fact that our country has a very rich history, for many years we have not paid enough attention to visual education of schoolchildren. An important part of our work will cover not only joint plans to increase the tourist attractiveness of our museums and the creation of joint tourist products, but also joint educational projects that will allow children, schoolchildren, first of all, to discover the treasures of Vladimir, Suzdal, and Pskov and to touch, in the truest sense of the word, the ancient history of our country”, Ekaterina Pronicheva, Director General of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve, noted.
The key tasks of the signed agreement include the study and popularization of Russian culture and history. The emphasis will be on working with the younger generation.
One of the first exhibition projects will be the exhibition Shine of Steel, which the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum will present in Pskov. The display features rare collections of weapons from different centuries. According to Ekaterina Pronicheva, the agreement will allow specialists of the two federal museum-reserves to work together on promoting “museum values related primarily to the Medieval period”.
