The world librarian and informational IFLA congress in Milano, Italy

The annual world library’s and informational IFLA congress starts today in Milano, Italy. It will continue until 27 of August 2009.

The congress, which the main topic is “The libraries create the future, founding on the cultural heritage”, is to be held in Italy for the fifth time. Earlier the librarians from the different countries of the world had met in 1928, 1929, 1951 and 1964.

This year the meetings of 48 sections are included in the program of Congress, which celebrates its 75-anniversary. There are the following sections: on national libraries, bibliography, cataloging, classification, acquisition and formation of funds, governmental information and official documents, preservation, rare books and manuscripts, library’s buildings and equipment, education, reference and informational service, audio-video and multimedia materials, informational literacy etc. One of the most interesting must be the section on informational technologies.

Besides that the specialists from libraries of the different typological part will discuss the common problems in the framework of special groups by interests “The libraries and web 2.0”, “The history of libraries”, “The national organizations and international relations”.
