Libraries of Russia: All-Russian census of libraries to begin in 2010

On Monday the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Andrei Busygin met with  journalists and reported that the All-Russian census of libraries would begin in 2010, and the preparatory work for this event was about to come to an end soon.

According to him this is going to be a short-term action, which would not require great expenses, nevertheless they have already been stipulated for the year 2010.

The Deputy Minister also announced that for 2010 470 mil. rubles had been given out for building the new libraries in Russia. This money will be also distributed on the building of the new National Library of Russia in St. – Petersburg and on the libraries in Petrozavodsk, Chuvashia, Buryatia and other regions.     

Andrei Busygin dwelled on the urgent problems of the library science and emphasized three of them. He touched upon the problem of libraries’ acquisition, stressed the necessity to collect the latest works of contemporary authors. Moreover he highlighted the importance of introduction of the modern technology. 

Busygin also emphasized the necessity of building the new libraries in Russia, especially the municipal.
