22 October 2009

“The complete normative dictionary of Contemporary Russian language” will come out in 2010. It was reported by the dean of the language and literature department of the St. – Petersburg State University Sergei Bogdanov at the session of the Russian language Commission.

The dictionary will comprise 25 thousand words, among them the terms of IT, Internet, economics and financial affairs, jurisprudence, art and religion. Apart from the linguists the people of different professions e.g. representatives of religious confessions have worked under the book. The release version with the circulation of 200 copies will include the Orthodox lexis. Moreover it will provide the appendixes with Islamic, Buddhistic and Judaic terms. It should be mentioned that starting from September, 1 2009 only 4 dictionaries are given the official status.

“The change of the norm – is neither good nor bad, this is an objective reality. The dictionary only fixes the way how to speak certain language in this very epoch. The usage of different words also changes”, - remarked the research worker of the Pushkin State Russian language Institute Ivana Leonova.
