The History of Russia: the 150th anniversary of the Imperial archeological commission

The V International archaeological Congress will be opened on October, 6 in Krasnodar Krai. It will attract more than 150 archaeologists from Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Germany, Greece and Great Britain.

“The V anniversary conference is held to commemorate the establishment of the Imperial archaeological commission 150 years ago. It favoured the formation of government bodies aimed at protection of Russian historical and cultural monuments”, - reported the Head of the Temryuksky district Andrei Nechushkin.

The Congress is held once in 4 years in order to discuss the scientific achievements, archaeological excavations and popularization of the ancient history of Kuban.

Over 700 archaeological monuments and 155 historical and cultural lands of Temryuksky district are protected by the state institutions, among them the Taman archaeological museum and the reserve of Hermonassa and Tmutarakan, the memorial house of Mikhail Lermontov in Taman, the museum devoted to the history of Kuban Cossackdom in the Cossack village Ataman.

The V International archaeological Congress will finish its work on October,10.
