Internet resources: Russian historical journals of XX cent. online
Almanacs and journals, dedicated to the history and culture of Russia are now online. This project will give the reader a unique chance to familiarize himself with the pre-revolutionary journals such as “Otechestvennyye zapiski” (“Russian notes”), “Russkiy Arhiv” (“Russian Archive”), “Russkaya starina” (“Russian old times”) and “Rossijsky Arhiv” (“Russian Archive”), the edition which was coming out in the end of XX – the beginning XXI century. Their facsimile copies will be freely available on the website of the historical library «Runivers», the online project, which was created with the support of the “Transneft’” company. Already now the website provides access to 4 digitized volumes of “Rossijsky Arhiv”. The core of the historical editions collection will appear on the website by the end of 2010.
“Otechestvennyye zapiski” - the Russian literary journal of XIX century, was coming out in St. – Petersburg from 1818 to 1884. The journal was initiated by the historian and writer P. Svinjin in 1818 and focused the readers on the history, geography, customs and traditions of Russia. Among its writers were at different time periods V. Zhukovsky, V. Odoevsky, M. Lermontov, the historians M. Pogodin and S. Shchevyrev, the slavophiles A. Khomyakov, S. Aksakov and others. V. Belinsky had been for many years the Head of the journal’s critical department.
The historical and literary journal “Russkiy Arhiv” was coming out from 1863 to 1917. Founded by P. Bartenev the journal was dedicated to the detailed study of the Russian history. It mostly contained the publications of unpublished memoirs, epistolary and literary materials and departmental documents, which provided a detailed account of the cultural and political history of the Russian nobility in XVIII and XIX centuries.
The monthly historical edition “Russkaya starina” was founded by M. Semevsky in 1870 in St. – Petersburg. Its mission was to analyze the Russian modern history from the reign of Peter the Great. It focused the reader’s attention on the “Imperial” period in the history of Russia and the history of the Russian literature. Special attention was paid to the notes, memoirs, diaries and autobiographies. The edition was prohibited in 1918.
The historical almanac “Rossijsky Arhiv” – the many-volumed periodical continued the educational traditions of the famous journal of P. Bartenev “Russkiy Arhiv”. Its principal aim was to publish the brand new archival documents, which had not been published before and were dedicated to the Russian history of ХVIII – beginning of ХХ century. They came out in whether in full or by the manuscripts. From 1990 to 2006 there were published 14 volumes of “Rossijskiy Arhiv” journal.
